What getting your spark back actually requires (and why the quick fixes never work)

Let me ask you something.

How many times have you thought I just need a holiday, taken the holiday and come back feeling exactly the same?

Or told yourself things would feel better once you got through this busy period, this project, this season…and then the next busy period arrived and nothing had actually changed?

If that sounds familiar, you're not alone. In fact, I've been there many times myself and I see it so often with my clients too!

Why the quick fixes don't work

Here's what I know to be true, both from my own experience and helping others: getting your spark back isn't a quick fix (I know, I wish it was too!).

While holidays, a new job or healthy habits do contribute in a positive way, on their own, they treat the symptoms without ever touching the cause...and this is why so many people try them and still end up in the same place...exhausted, overwhelmed and wondering whether they'll ever feel like themselves again.

The reason nothing sticks is because sustainable change has to happen from the inside out, and that requires something most of us have never really been taught to do: turning inward, getting honest and doing the inner work.

What the inner work actually looks like

I'm going to start by demystifying that a little bit, because 'doing the inner work' can sound a little intimidating!

Here's what it means in practice:

It starts with understanding - understanding why you feel the way you do. The simple science of what's happening in your nervous system when you're burnt out, why things that never used to bother you suddenly send you spiralling, why your brain keeps talking you out of the changes you know you need to make. When you understand the why, everything starts to make a lot more sense and feel a lot less like a personal failing.

Then it moves into reconnection - getting back in touch with who you actually are, rather than the one you perform to be most of the time. I'm talking about the person who is in touch with their values, passions and interests, the one with a sense of humour and knows (roughly) what direction they're heading in.

So many of the people I work with have been so busy being everything to everyone else that they've lost touch with themselves almost entirely.

Reconnection is where the spark starts to come back, and only after that do we start moving into new patterns...new ways to think about yourself and what is possible for you, new daily habits that support your life rather than drain it, forming a new relationship with that pesky voice in your head telling you you're not capable.

The comparison trap

One of the biggest things that keeps us stuck is comparison.

Scrolling through someone else's life, seeing how they move through it with such ease and confidence and wondering why isn't that me?

Here's what I want you to remember every single time that happens: you are looking at their day 500 and comparing it to your day one.

You are seeing the highlight reel of someone who has already done the work, made the mistakes, had the wobbles that you're experiencing now, and kept going anyway.

You have no idea what their day one looked like.

Your journey back to yourself is not a competition and it doesn't have a timeline.

It just requires you to start and to keep going.

What's actually possible

I've seen my clients go from genuinely running on empty to thriving in a matter of weeks because they shifted their mindset...the way they see themselves, the way they talk to themselves and the choices they make every single day.

And I want you to know - that kind of transformation is available to you too!

Getting your spark back doesn't mean having a perfect life. It means feeling like yourself again and with the right structure and support, that is so much more achievable than it might feel right now, I promise!
